Your best defence against viruses

With all of the worldwide concern about the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic,  we provide you with some insight as to why your gut is your best defence against all viruses. Did you know that probiotics will be playing a huge role in fighting off this new strain of virus. Probiotics will keep the digestive tract and overall health in optimum state in order to act as a barrier to this disease. Firstly, an excerpt from an article from New York Times best-selling author and digestive care expert, Brenda Watson explains why you should look to your gut health to fight viruses and bacteria: “Probiotics are the good bacteria that keep our gut healthy. Naturally grown in the intestinal tract, they aid in the nourishment and defence of the whole body, not just the digestive tract. When you have an abundance of probiotic bacteria in your gut, it’s harder for the pathogenic bacteria, that comes with a cold or flu, to take hold. Probiotics also help the body to produce certain vitamins that help keep us strong and they fight viruses on three different levels: 1. While the virus is still in your intestinal tract, good bacteria surround and neutralize the virus. 2. The good bacteria form a barrier along your intestinal lining to prevent the virus from passing through the intestinal lining and into the bloodstream. 3. If the virus gets through one and two, the friendly bacteria actually communicate with your body to produce substances that neutralize the virus before it causes damage. Supplementing with probiotics is the easiest way to build up your good bacteria and keep your immune system strong all year long.” A further article from ABC News Australia outlines trials that were conducted on Probiotics and the flu virus. It states: “In a study sponsored by Danisco, a Danish nutritional supplement company that makes probiotics products, researchers found that a six-month course of probiotics was a safe and effective way to ward off flu symptoms and reduce their duration in 3- to 5-year-olds. Nearly 250 kids were treated twice daily for six months. One group of children received a single strain of the probiotic called Lactobacillus acidophilus, one group received a combination of the L acidophilus and Bifidobacterium probiotics, and a third group received a placebo. Compared to the placebo group, the single and combination probiotics had reduced fever incidence by 53 percent and 72.7 percent, respectively, decreased coughing by 41.4 percent and 62.1 percent, and reduced runny noses by 28.2 percent and 58.5 percent. The groups also used less antibiotics, and missed fewer days of school or childcare because of the flu.” Our Rawbiotics are live, beneficial bacteria, which, unlike freeze dried products, are fermented at body temperature and contain the full range of natural enzymes, lactic acid and live bacteria necessary for optimum balance of the gastrointestinal tract, and full, overall body health and immunity.
